Apple would have considered delivering groceries at home

With services that represent the second source of income for Apple behind the iPhone, we understand why the manufacturer throws all its forces into this area – even if it means imagining services that are very far removed from its core business. But after all, Apple produces a lot of TV series…

Mark Gurman, in his Sunday newsletter, indicates that Apple would have considered a home shopping delivery service, like Uber Eats or Instacart! Rather surprising at first sight, because the task-based economy sector is complicated: you have to find independent delivery people, when the justice system does not requalify the tasks as a formal employment contract, or when it does not condemn platforms for undeclared work as was the case last month for Deliveroo.

Moreover, this is an area that generates relatively low margins, it is difficult to be profitable at levels to which Apple has become accustomed. But perhaps the strong growth of this type of service due to the health crisis has given the company ideas? The Apple “touch” would be integration with the Health application: the races ordered would allow the app to give nutrition advice.

The journalist from Bloomberg also believes that Apple should soon launch its gear subscription service, as well as Apple Pay Later, to “buy now and pay later” (in installments). Finally, he says he expects big updates for Apple TV+, without giving more details.
