Throughout the Fair, the municipality will present on its stand its vanilla road project (R’Vanille) and its Territorial Food Plan (PAT). Validated a few months ago with the State, it aims to promote sustainable, healthy and quality food through more diversified agriculture or the creation of an original municipal cooking school. Presentation.

A major theme of this mandate, the city clearly displays in its PAT its objective of creating “sustainable, diversified and quality” agriculture on its territory. The key idea is to open up new sectors and establish a development model to meet the expectations of farmers and consumers.

In a partnership approach involving the inhabitants, producers and consumers, the Chamber of Agriculture, the National Park, the SAFER, the Rectorate, the CCAS or the ARS, the municipality is committed to sustainable, healthy food. and quality. To do this, six major axes have been declined: the creation of a food basket for all aimed at the development and animation of 3 shared gardens with training of users, the enhancement of food heritage (planting of 150 breadfruit over 3 years, re-commissioning of the bread oven), the development of new marketing methods (short circuits, farmers’ market), food education through the establishment of “taste classes”, the increase in the share of local products and the opening of a municipal cooking school.

The plan also aims to fight against food waste by raising awareness among school canteens and the general public and by sometimes original actions such as the creation of a mobile kitchen to promote food heritage and teach the public how to use leftovers. The ambition is to facilitate the installation of young farmers in parallel in agroecological projects (market gardening and mixed crop farming), in particular by purchasing 176 ha of land in the Domaine de la Paix sector, in the Hauts de the municipality, to support the diversification of the food supply by supporting initiatives combining quality production, enhancement of food heritage and development of agro-tourism activities and to promote the local supply of school canteens and the elderly or disabled. of precariousness. The goal is also to develop short circuits, in particular with the opening of a shop of local producers by the end of the year. Written for the period 2021-2024 as part of a call for projects from the National Food Program (PNA), the project benefits from the financial support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food via the DAAF and the ADEME up to 142,000 euros to finance the recruitment of a coordinator and 176,000 euros to finance the actions.

> Breadfruit, mocha beef… we diversify
Major axis of this mandate and base of the PAT, where is the agricultural diversification project of the commune, almost two years after the election of Jeannick Atchapa? Two diagnoses (agricultural and food) are being developed in order to better clarify the orientations and then prioritize them. With the objective of developing a breadfruit sector, two farmers have already given their agreement for the establishment of fruit near their farms. Thirty plans are in the process of being acquired from the “label nout péi” association, a partner of the PAT. Discussions have also been launched with other partners for the development of the sector. A group of partners has been set up to program and organize diversity and forecast farm profitability. Inside are the University, AD2R, CIRAD and Qualitropic. With the objective of relaunching mocha beef, the farm project continues to be set up. The project leader is supported in his efforts by CIRAD, Qualitropic and the city. The quality of its livestock is now recognized by CIRAD. The next step will consist of setting up a technical itinerary procedure and seeking funding.

> A shared garden of 2,800 m2
After the creation of a first garden on the site of the fairground made available to Secours Catholique, in particular to produce vegetables then distributed to people in need, a second garden will see the light of day on a plot of 2,800 m2 located at the back of the Maloya residence for the elderly, in the city center. A farmer will be the godfather of the garden where it is planned to collect rainwater to irrigate the crops. To take care of it, the recruitment of 30 volunteers among the inhabitants is in progress (elderly people, precarious public). They will first benefit from training focused on farming methods and practices that respect the environment. The main idea of ​​this action is to produce quality, diversification and curb food insecurity.

> 176 ha for agroforestry
The act of acquisition by the town hall of 176 hectares of land in the Domaine de la Paix is ​​in the process of being signed. The portage will be carried out by SAFER for a period of 3 years. Currently classified as N in the PLU with areas in EBC (classified wooded areas), the land will be the subject of a potential study for the purpose of identifying exploitable areas. A call for applications will then be launched for project leaders in agroforestry or outdoor activities.
