Johann Zarco and Fabio Quartararo in Q2 of the MotoGP French Grand Prix

Stripped Friday by Enea Bastianini of his Bugatti circuit record which dated from 2018, Johann Zarco set the record straight this Saturday, recovering his property during the third free practice session of the Grand Prix de France. The Frenchman had a stunning last run, bringing the time down to 1’30”537. Enough to present the best time in the aggregate of the three rounds and ensure its presence in Q2.

Zarco was not the only man to break the record, since Fabio Quartararo and Francesco Bagnaia had stuck to it just before him. But the Pramac driver had the last word, while the Italian had taken control of the EL3s.

Martin and Mir in Q1

Behind him, therefore, we find Bagnaia (Ducati, 2nd at 0”031) and Quartararo (Yamaha, 3rd at 0”145). Marc Marquez (Honda, 4th at 0”248) slipped into the best, taking advantage in particular of the aspiration of the reigning world champion in his last run, which he acknowledged by saluting him on his motorcycle in end of session. Defending champion at Le Mans, Jack Miller (Ducati) presents the 5th report.

Among the losers of the morning, we find Jorge Martin (Pramac) and Joan Mir (Suzuki), who will have to go through the repechage of the qualifications at the beginning of the afternoon. Q2 will take place at 2:35 p.m.
