End of the run for Casey White and Vicky White. The American police announced on Monday evening that they had arrested in the state of Indiana the detainee who escaped on April 29 thanks to the assistance of a prison officer, also arrested. The two fugitives had been actively sought for ten days and the escape of Casey White, described as “extremely dangerous”, from the Lauderdale County Jail in Florence, Alabama, in the southern United States.
“Casey White is under arrest again,” Sheriff Rick Singleton told reporters. His alleged accomplice, prison officer Vicky White, was injured during the arrest. Their run on a background of romance fascinated the Americans, over the revelations day after day.
The escape took place during the last day of work of the prison manager, who was about to retire after 17 years of impeccable service. The childless widow had sold her house “about a month ago,” according to Sheriff Rick Singleton, to “enjoy the beach” in retirement. An arrest warrant had been issued against him for “having enabled or facilitated an escape”.
As for Casey White, a colossus of 2.06 m and 118 kg, he was serving a 75-year prison sentence for a long series of offenses, including home invasion, car theft with violence and hit and run. He also faced a murder charge after admitting killing a 58-year-old woman in 2015.
Suspicions had quickly emerged as to the nature of the link between the two fugitives: Vicky White, a veteran 56-year-old agent, had accompanied Casey White, 38, to court for an alleged psychological evaluation, without respecting the rule that the movements of prisoners are supervised by two officers.
